PREGNANCY MASSAGE

Your body is perfectly designed to accommodate your growing baby. However, these normal changes can lead to pain and discomfort throughout your body. Pregnancy Massage works to address these areas of pain to enable you to enjoy your pregnancy experience.

Pregnancy Massage, by a trained Massage Therapist like myself, can be safely done in the first trimester, all the way through to you go into labour. If you come across someone telling you it's not safe, remember it's more about their knowledge and lack of confidence in working with pregnant women so please reach out if you have any concerns before booking in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Remedial Massage is performed by a Diploma Qualified Remedial Massage Therapist that is trained in soft tissue techniques targeted to improve function in the body. I am required to remain current with First Aid, continuing education, be fully insured and operate within a Code of Conduct.

Pregnancy and Post Natal Massage is Remedial Massage performed on women in pregnancy or during her post natal recovery. I talk about them separately from Remedial Massage so that you know that I am confident in working with you during these stages of life and have additional knowledge and training to support your needs.

We are often asked whether Pregnancy Massage can provide a natural induction method for labour. We would love to be able to guarantee this outcome as we know many pregnant women are ready for their baby to arrive. It would also avoid the need for medical induction in some circumstances. Unfortunately, the only outcome we can aim for with Pregnancy Massage is to prepare your body for the impending childbirth by relaxing the body and mind. Your baby will let you know when they are ready to come into the world.

Other times this question is asked out of fear that Pregnancy Massage may cause early labour or miscarriage. Pregnancy Massage, when performed considering all risk factors and with appropriate positioning for each stage, can be safe through all stages of pregnancy.

If you attend an appointment with a specific ache, pain or injury to address during your massage then yes I can provide a receipt for Remedial Massage for you to claim.

I am registered to be able to provide Health Fund Rebates with many of the major health funds.

I cannot tell you how much you will receive prior to your appointment. If you would like to confirm rebate amounts, please ensure you contact your health fund directly. You are also responsible for ensuring that you have appropriate health fund coverage and rebates available before your massage. If claim is not successful, you are liable for the costs of the treatment.

During your Massage you may experience some discomfort but I do aim to keep it as comfortable as possible and work within your pain limits. I believe that your body needs to be able to relax and you be able to breathe to allow the tight areas we are working to ease. I aim to combine Remedial techniques with relaxation techniques to make it a more enjoyable experience. Especially in pregnancy, causing pain to the point where you hold your breath is not advisable. I need to manage pressure to ensure you continue to breathe regularly.

You may experience some muscle aches following the massage similar to those you feel after a workout. Please know that this is not any damage and you can continue to move normally and gently as the discomfort settles.

For your massage I do ask that you undress to your level of comfort. I can perform some techniques through the towel and will do my best to complete as much body work as I can through towels where you are uncomfortable to undress. If you prefer to leave your bra on, I can accommodate that and just unclip as I work through the back. If you prefer to leave your pants on while I focus on your back and neck, I can easily work with that request.

In usual circumstances, I will ask you to undress to your underpants. Underpants help to secure the towel as I work on each body part while keeping the rest of your body covered.

At all times underwear is to be worn as part of our Code of Conduct. There are no circumstances where it is acceptable to be treated without underwear.

You have 3 options for Pregnancy and Post Natal Massage appointment duration:
* 30 minutes - this is ideal for one area to be targeted
* 60 minutes - this is our standard time and important to book this duration for your first massage so it allows enough time to assess and work through the areas of concern. In this time I can generally complete most of your body.
* 90 minutes - this is the extended time which allows us to work through your whole body or target multiple complex areas.
